Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new copolymer, having a specific structure, a high solubility in general organic solvents and useful as coatings, coating agents, adhesives, etc., due to its ability to provide a uniform composition by dissolving in the organic solvents.
CONSTITUTION: The objective copolymer is composed of 2-60mol% unit of formula I (R1 is H or methyl), 40-98mol% unit of formula II (R2 is R1; R3 is 5-9C hydrocarbon) and 0-40mol% unit of an α,β-unsaturated monomer other than the units of formulas I and II. N-Vinylformamide or N-vinylacetamide is usually used as the monomer capable of providing the unit of formula I. For example, 2-methylbutyl acrylate, etc., are cited as a monomer providing the unit of formula II, for example, 2-ethoxyethyl acrylate, etc., are cited as the α,β-unsaturated monomer. Furthermore, the objective copolymer is preferably obtained by the solution polymerization. In the process, the reaction is preferably carried out at 40-180°C in an inert gas stream for 1-40hr.
