PURPOSE: To provide the magneto-resistance effect type magnetic head which suppresses the generation of electric drifts and thermal noises and is improved in frequency characteristics with the magneto-resistance effect type magnetic head for reproducing to be used for a magnetic recording and reproducing device.

CONSTITUTION: This magnetic head is constituted by varying distance g1 between a 1st ferrite block 1 and a magneto-resistance effect element 12 and the distance g2 between a 2nd ferrite block 2 and the magneto-resistance effect element 12. The need for a bias conductor is eliminated in this way and the electric drifts and thermal noises generated heretofore from the bias conductor are eliminated. In addition, an electromagnetic conversion gap length GL is shortened by as much as the thickness of the bias conductor and the frequency characteristic is improved.
