Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a polycarbonate copolymer having low photoelastic coefficient and extremely useful for an optical information recording disk recordable with laser beam, by bonding two specific kinds of bisphenols through a carbonate bond. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer can be produced by bonding 95-5mol% 1,1'-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-m-diisopropylbenzene of formula I and 5-95mol% 2,2-bis(4-hydroxy-3-tert-butylphenyl)propane of formula II through a carbonate bond. The viscosity-average molecular weight of the copolymer is preferably 13,000-50,000. The formation of the carbonate bond is carried out by the use of a potassium-based catalyst.
