PURPOSE: To improve the cylindricity of a workpiece by measuring the outer diameter thereof, comparing the measured diameter with a set machining diameter to calculate a correction value for cutting and then causing the relative motion of a head stock and a wheel spindle stock in a grinding attachment for performing the traverse grinding of a workpiece with a grinder.
CONSTITUTION: The stepped edge Wa of a workpiece W is ground under control, according to a machining program stored in a memory 22, upon receipt of an instruction from an input device, and the external surface Wb of the workpiece W is ground to the predetermined size. Then, the diameter of the external surface Wb is measured with an outer diameter measurement unit 18 and inputted to a correction operation circuit 29. This circuit 29 operates a correction amount via the comparison of the operated value with the predetermined machining diameter inputted from a machining diameter setting circuit 30. The correction amount is, then, inputted to CPU 21, and a pulse signal corresponding to the correction is outputted to pulse distribution circuits 23 and 24, thereby driving servo motors 13 and 15. As a result, a wheel spindle stock 12 is caused to advance and retreat only by the correction amount, thereby correcting a cutting amount and causing the shift of a worktable 14.
