Abstract:
PURPOSE: To specify an extended IPL device while holding interchangeability with a conventional IPL device in respect to an IPL device specifying method in the case of executing initial program loading from various file devices.
CONSTITUTION: This IPL device specifying system is provided with a setting part 2 for expressing whether an IPL device is loaded or not, a non-volatile memory(NVM) 7 for storing a boot program for an extended IPL device, a display part 4 for recommending an operator to specify a device for executing IPL, and an input means for specifying an IPL device. When a flag bit '1' indicating the existence of an extended IPL device in the setting part 2 is valid, an IPL device name registered in the NVM 7 is displayed on the display part 4, a loading device is determined based upon an operator's instruction and the corresponding initial program (boot program) stored in the NVM 7 is executed, or after developing it in a main storage, the program is executed.
