PURPOSE: To obtain the processing circuit which makes a full-color display without any increase in memory capacity as to a circuit having a memory stored with characters for editing and displaying and figure information.

CONSTITUTION: A color setting register 30 where the colors of characters and figure data are set is provided in a still picture system and a selector switches the data in the color setting register 30 and data in an image memory 15 according to whether or not there are data in a character and figure memory 17. When character and figure data C appear at the time of an on-screen display of characters and figures on image data, a 1st selector 31 switches the image data to figure color setting data A, which are outputted as on-screen display data D. The color setting register 30 can be stored with many pieces of setting information and is usable for the full-color display. Then when the image data and character and figure data are edited, a 2nd selector 32 puts data E from the image memory 15 and data F from the character and figure memory 17 together.
