Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enable the surface change of the surface of a foam molded body formed from expanded body formed from expanded polypropylene particles and the formation of a decorative surface structure by plasticizing the surface layer within an area to be structured of the foam molded body to perform embossing operation.

CONSTITUTION: A foam molded body is heated to such a degree that the shape stability thereof is still held. Subsequently, the surface to be structured of the foam molded body is treated by an embossing stamp heated to temp. exceeding the m.p. of a thermoplastic molded body. A melt is generated by the contact of the embossing stamp with the surface of the foam molded body and the embossing stamp is pressed thereto under the formation of a predetermined structure. In this process, a surface of sheet characteristics having the structure preliminarily applied to the embossing stamp is generated. By this constitution, the embossing stamp can be used in order not only to obtain the decorative surface structure of the foam molded body formed from expanded polypropylene particles but also to form a partially planar molded object.
