Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a fine β-alumina excellent in electric conductivity and suitable for use as the solid electrolyte of a secondary battery such as a sodium- sulfur battery or a sodium-molten salt battery, an alkali metal thermoelectric conversion cell, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Powdery starting materials for aluminum and sodium are added to a nonaq. solvent and starting material for lithium including an organolithium compd. soluble in the nonaq. solvent as a part or all of the starting material is further added. They are mixed to prepare a slurry, the slurry is dried and the resulting powder is calcined, pulverized, compacted and sintered to produce the objective β-alumina electrolyte.
