PURPOSE: To more smoothly obtain the new subject polymer excellent in heat resistance and solvent resistance in a short time by subjecting an oxazoline compound containing (L-cyclohexenyl)-oxazoline to ring-opening polymerization.
CONSTITUTION: An oxazoline compound containing 2-(2'- or 3'-cyclohexenyl)-2- oxazoline of formula I (R1 is 2- or 3-cyclohexenyl) is subjected to ring-opening polymerization at 60-130°C for 1-40hr to provide the objective polymer having recurring units of formula II. The ring-opening polymerization is preferably carried out in the presence of a polymerization initiator by bulk polymerization or solution polymerization. Furthermore, methyl p-toluenesulfonate is preferably used as the polymerization initiator. In the case of solution polymerization, e.g. acetonitrile, dimethylformamide, etc., can be used as the solvent.
