PURPOSE: To prevent environmental pollution in the production of the objective glass without lowering the electrical insulation of the glass by compounding a specific component and rejecting the intrusion of lead oxide and alkali metal oxide.
CONSTITUTION: A composition is produced by compounding 82.5-87.5wt.% of Bi2O3, 13-18wt.% of B2O3, 0.2-1.5wt.% of SiO2 and 0.2-1.5wt.% of CeO2 (the sum of the components is ≥99.5wt.%) and optionally adding a clarifier such as Sb2O3 as the remaining 0.5wt.% of the composition. The obtained composition is melted by heating at 1000-1200°C, vitrified and crushed to obtain the objective bonding or sealing glass essentially free from lead oxide and alkali metal oxide or containing ≤0.1wt.% of the oxides in total.
