Abstract:
PURPOSE: To reduce a meaningless power burden to an engine, which is required for driving a hydraulic pump that generates hydraulic pressure for operating a power steering device so as to reduce the fuel consumption and to ensure a sufficient hydraulic pressure and a flow rate of hydraulic oil whenever it is necessary.
CONSTITUTION: An assist cylinder 4 for assisting the engagement of a centrifugal clutch 2 disposed between a pump body and an output end of an engine 3 is incorporated in the clutch 2. Hydraulic pressure fed from the pump body 1 to a hydraulic actuator 6 is introduced into the assist cylinder 4. The centrifugal clutch 2 engages the pump body 1 with the engine 4 when the rotational speed of the engine 3 is low, that is, when the vehicle runs at a low speed at which a large steering assist force is required. The assist switch 4 intensifies the engagement of the centrifugal clutch 2 when the hydraulic pressure fed to the hydraulic actuator 6 from the pump body 1 increases in a condition in which the clutch 2 is engaged, and accordingly, the output power of the engine 3 may be sufficiently transmitted to the pump body 1.
