Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain fine powder of yttrium oxide having excellent sinterability, reactivity and dispersibility and free from agglomeration tendency. SOLUTION: Yttrium oxide fine powder is produced by neutralizing an aqueous solution of an acidic salt of yttrium with an aqueous solution of a basic salt containing carbonic acid, aging the produced precipitate and using the obtained yttrium carbonate as the mother salt. In the above process, an aqueous solution of ammonium sulfate having a concentration of 10<-3> to 10 wt.% is used as a washing water for yttrium carbonate.
