Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a hydroxyphenyldihydrobenzothiazepinone compound useful as a synthetic intermediate, etc., for coronary vasodilation agent, etc., in high efficiency and yield by reacting a specific microorganism, etc., with a specific compound.

CONSTITUTION: This optically active 3-hydroxy-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1,5- benzothiazepin-4(5H)-one compound of formula III is produced by treating a compound of formula I (rings A and B are each benzene ring which may have substituent selected from a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy and a halogen; R is H or di(lower alkyl)amino-lower alkyl) with a microorganism capable of converting the compound of formula I into the compound of formula II and belonging to the genus Alcaligenes, Arthrobacter, etc., or its treated product and a microorganism capable of converting the compound of formula II into the optically active compound of formula III and belonging to the genus Candida, Debaryomyces, etc., or its treated product. The compound of formula III is preferably a (2S,3S) isomer.
