An image processing apparatus comprises: means for inputting image data page by page; means for generating raw image data of the input image data and coded data of the input image data; image memory means for storing the raw image data and the coded data; and control means for controlling the storing of the data into the image memory means and selecting one of the raw image data and the coded data for saving in the image memory means in accordance with the data volume of the coded data.
