Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method to refine a large amt. of sialic acid.
CONSTITUTION: Sialic acid is obtd. from a hydrolyzed soln. of natural material containing sialic acid by at least two-stage electrodialysis with using at least two kinds of ion exchange membranes. Thereby, refining of sialic acid can be done, although this is conventionally difficult by electrodialysis using only one kind of ion exchange membrane. Namely, by using two kinds of membranes, about 100% recovery of sialic acid is realized, and moreover, desalting is completely done so that high-purity sialic acid can be obtd.
