PURPOSE: To increase the forming speed of a monochromatic image in a thermal transfer recording apparatus wherein the heating resistor of a thermal head is divided into a plurality of blocks to be subjected to division driving on a block basis.

CONSTITUTION: Enable signals ENL1, ENL2, ENL3, ENL4 for subjecting the heating resistor of a thermal head to division driving on a block basis are outputted with the signals ENL1, ENL2 and the signals ENL3, ENL4 respectively at the same timing and the heating resistors of four blocks are driven two blocks at a time to shorten the time required in the recording of one line and a recording cycle.
