PURPOSE: To enable it to grind a ferrule without rotating and rocking it as well as to make inexpensive device obtainable at a time when an optical connector ferrule end face is ground.
CONSTITUTION: A holder 2 of a ferrule F connected to an optical fiber (f) is attached to a support frame 14 via a pressure mechanism 3, setting it down to a stationary. Next, an abrasive surface plate 1 supported free of movements in an YX plane by means of an XY stage 4 is shifted to some extent by planetary gears consisting of a rotatory driving shaft 7, a turning shaft 8, an internal gear 10, an external gear 11 and a driving pin 12. In this case, this pin 12 and the abrasive surface plate 1 connected to this pin are moved along the contour form of a continuous petal, and abrasive trace paths of the ferrule F stationary to the abrasive surface plate 1 come to the petaline form, thus grinding can be done even without moving the ferrule, while a grinding direction is always varied and thereby it is grindable in a highly accurate manner.
