PURPOSE: To provide an engine for an industrial vehicle comprising a continuous breaking device that ensures continuous speed down of the vehicle independently of a normal break in a long slope.
CONSTITUTION: Profile of control cam 36 of exhaust valve 3 consists of a first section 56 with null lift corresponding to one stage of suction stroke of the relevant cylinder, a second section 57 with a constant small lift corresponding to the last stage of the suction stroke and to both compression stroke and power stroke of the relevant cylinder, and a third lobe section corresponding to exhaust strokes of the respective cylinders. A continuous breaking device 2 includes an actuator 46 capable of displacing a rotation axis 24 of control rocker arm 18 of exhaust valve 3 from a first normal work position to a second break position. In the first normal work position, the valve clearance is large enough so as to cause the second section 57 of profile of the cam 36 to be ineffective, and in the second break position, the valve clearance is reduced so as to activate the second section 57.
