Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent a servo signal from being unobtained even when a head goes to the outside of a recording area by providing a spare track with a servo signal similar to those of a recording area recorded thereupon to the outer circumference more than the outermost circumference of a recording track of a disk and more inner than the innermost circumference. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium is provided with plural tracks from the outermost circumferential track TR00 till the innermost circumferential track 239, and each track is formed by a servo area S and a data area D. The area S is provided with a servo pattern PS circulated while being split into a prescribed number, e.g., of tracks (groups). Moreover, three spare tracks TR01-03, TR293+1-239+3 are provided respectively to the outer circumference and the inner circumference of the tracks TR00, TR239 and the cyclic pattern PSS similar to the pattern PS is formed to a servo area SS. Through the constitution above, even when the head goes outside the storage area, the servo signal is not lost and the head is moved quickly to the object track with high accuracy without losing the servo signal.
