Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a novel gene for expressing an antigen protein useful as a component vaccine for pertussis.

CONSTITUTION: The hybrid Bordetella genes are constructed comprising a Bordetella gene, particularly one encoding a Bordetella antigen, fused at an ATG codon to a native but autologous Bordetella promoter, for example have TOX promoter and FHA structural gene. When a promoter intrinsic to one gene in the two genes originating from a same strain is displaced with the promoter intrinsic to the other gene, the structural gene is fused to the prescribed promoter with the ATG initiation codon to form the hybrid gene.
