PURPOSE: To improve a reliability and extend a life in an impact dot head in a printing action with an unsuitably large gap between the impact dot head and a platen.

CONSTITUTION: An impact dot head has a structure in which, in a printing action with an unsuitably large gap between an impact dot head 2 and a platen 3, the close contact of a return spring 14 is ensured before the impact of a plunger 11 on a core 10. In this manner, the plunger 11 and the core 10 can be prevented from coming into collision with each other, thus never being worn by the impact force. Furthermore, a stroke of a printing wire 7 and a drive lever 8 is regulated so as not to become too long to continuously drive the printing wire. The printing wire 7 cannot be caught by an ink ribbon 4 and broken.
