PURPOSE: To obtain a new diacetylene showing a liquid crystal phase or a liquid crystal state by polymn. which is useful for various purposes such as optical, acoustic, electronic, electro-optic, electroacoustic, mechanical, thermal, conductive, piezoelectric, pyroelectric and other structural components or devices.
CONSTITUTION: This diacetylene compd. is expressed by the formula, for example, 1-(p-tolyl)but-1-en-3-ine. In the formula, R1, R2 are each H, cyano, a halogen or a 1-3C alkyl; R3, R4 are each H, cyano, a halogen, amino or a 1-6C alkyl: R5, R6 are each H, cyano, an alkyl, an aralkyl, an alkanol or a heterosubstd. 1-30C aryl. The compd. of the formula such as the example compd. is obtd. by dropping and reacting a tetrahydrofuran soln. of pyridazine-1-oxide in a Grignard reagent prepared from magnesium and 4-bromotoluene in tetrahydrofuran. A layer of the compsn. containing divinyl or dialkenyldiacetylene expressed by the formula is formed on a substrate and polymerized as in a liquid crystal state of the layer by an imaging method to obtain a polymer.
