Abstract:
PURPOSE: To substantially relax an influence 15 changing a peripheral environment and limitation of a lighting direction while obtaining a lamp most cooled part temperature with small unevenness always at a high temperature.
CONSTITUTION: In a metal vapor discharge lamp of short arc type having a protrusion part 11 formed in an arc tube 10, when assumed S1 for surface area of the arc tube 10 and S2 for surface area of the protrusion part 11, the protrusion part 11 is formed so as to satisfy inequality of S2/S1≤0.2. In this way, a heat loss from the protrusion part 11 is decreased, to maintain a high temperature.
