Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a high-molecular-weight aliphatic polyester copolymer having good mechanical properties and high yield strength and elongation at break by polycondensing lactic acid with caprolactone in the presence of a catalyst so as to produce a copolymer having a specified molecular weight and specified amounts of respective kinds of repeating units.
CONSTITUTION: This copolymer mainly consists of 99-70mol % units derived from lactic acid and 1-30mol% units derived from caprolactone and has a number-average molecular weight of 10000-100000. The copolymer is produced by polycondensing at least lactic acid with caprolactone in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst is pref. a germanium compound or a titanium compound.
