Abstract:

PURPOSE: To shorten the access time of an automatic storage library.

CONSTITUTION: A data processing system contains the automatic storage library 14 having a storage cell 16, a medium transportation/search mechanism 20 and a peripheral drive device 18. The storage cell 16 holds a magnetic tape cartridge and it is take out in a robot system by a picker 32 loaded on the transportation and search mechanism. The transportation and search mechanism contains a cartridge drive 36 executing an adjustment processing on a tape medium before the cartridge is set in the drive device for transferring information to an from a tape and contains a control circuit 30. The adjustment processing contains a refresh processing for the coarse-positioning of the tape for information and for checking tape tension and/or a tape length processing.
