PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new compound excellent in safety, fastness to light, dyeing properties and medium blue color and useful for dyeing a papermaking material, cellulose fiber, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [A is phenyl or naphthyl having sulfonic acid group; (n) is 1 or 2; when (n) is 1, (m) is 1 and when (n) is 2, (m) is 0], e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by diazotizing a compound of formula III, subjecting the diazotized compound to acidic coupling with a compound of formula IV (R is methyl or ethyl), as necessary, hydrolyzing the resultant compound to afford a compound of formula V, diazotizing the compound of formula V, subjecting the diazotized compound to alkali coupling with 6-phenylamino-1-naphthol-3-sulfonic acid to give a compound of formula VI and reacting the compound of formula VI with a copper complex salt compound.
