PURPOSE: To compensate the fall of the response of a video signal so as to improve picture quality.

CONSTITUTION: The video signal 24 from a tuner 23 is separated into a luminance signal 26 and a color difference signal 27 by a Y/C separation circuit 25, and the luminance signal 26 is contour-enhancing-processed by a contour enhancement circuit 29, and further, it is corrected into a prescribed signal level in which a noise component is eliminated by a slicer circuit 31 and a limiter circuit 32, and a corrected contour enhanced signal 33 is obtained. An adder 35 synthesizes a signal 34 which is the luminance signal 26 band-limited by an LPF 28 to the signal 33, and a Y/C mixer 38 synthesizes this synthetic signal 36 with the signal which is the color difference signal 27 delayed by a delay line 37, and outputs a noise eliminated video signal 39. A selector switch 40 selects either the signal 39 or the video signal 24 in accordance with a noise detection output 44 obtained by passing a detection signal 41 from the tuner 23 through a noise quantity detection circuit 43, and video signal output 45 is obtained.
