PURPOSE: To effectively store the input data in a memory of the small capacity by providing the storage files for the format information and the document data respectively and a merge program for output.
CONSTITUTION: The overall format information, e.g. the size of a layout form, the number of lines, the number of characters, the character sizes set for each layout place, the position of a common area, the data stored in the common area, etc., are inputted through an input device 7. These input information are registered and stored in a format information file 11. Meanwhile the numeric characters, the KANJI (Chinese characters) are stored in a document data file 12. When these input contents stored in both files 11 and 12 are read out, displayed and printed, the contents of both files are merged together by a merge program 13 for production of an output screen. Thus the storage capacity can be reduced and the manipulated variable can also be reduced when plural formats are available.
