PURPOSE: To obtain a new pyrimidine derivative capable of controlling harmful weeds which grow in paddy field and upland, etc., in low chemical mounts and useful as a herbicide which does not give damage to useful crops.
CONSTITUTION: A compound, e.g. 2-(4, 6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)oxy-6-(4,6 dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)oxybenzoic acid, expressed by formula I [Het is formula II to formula IX (X is halogen, alkyl, phenyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, CN, NO2, NH2, etc.; (n) is 1-6; R1 is alkyl or phenyl), etc.; R is H, alkyl, CH(R2)OR3 (R2 is H or alkyl; R3 is alkyl, alkylcarbonyl, phenylcarbonyl, etc.), N=C(R6)2 (R6 is alkyl)] and salt thereof. The compound is obtained by reacting a compound expressed by the formula X with a compound expressed by the formula Y-Het (Y is halogen, methylsulfonyl, etc.) in the presence of a base in a solvent.
