PURPOSE: To obtain an effective flocculant as a flocculant for a suspension liquid by adding dialdehyde to water-soluble 4-aminomethyl-1, 8-octane diamine- epihalohydrin polymn. condensation product with a specified molar ratio to the source material 4-aminomethyl-1,8-octane diamine to cause the reaction.
CONSTITUTION: Dialdehyde is added to water-soluble 4-aminomethyl-1,8-octane diamine-epihalohydrin polymn. condensation product by ≥0.0001 molar ratio per 4 aminomethyl-1,8-octane diamine as the source material to cause the reaction to obtain a flocculant comprising a water-soluble high polymn. condensation product or its salt. This flocculant has extremely high polymn. degree, high stretching and expanding property with a small loss of active groups in the molecule, and large hydrophobic groups and is active for reaction and adsorption. Thus, the flocculant has a small flocculating value and can form stable and large flocs. Thereby, this flocculant shows a significant effect to remove turbid matter or color from a suspension liquid or colored water and to promote sedimentation or the like by flocculation of colloidal material or coarse grains.
