PURPOSE: To stably run a magnetic tape by making the circumferential speed of a tape guide different from the running speed of the magnetic tape.
CONSTITUTION: The rotary tape guide 11 of the supply side held by a rotary shaft holder 50 and a height setting flange 18 are arranged in the upper part of a moving base 17. The rotary shaft 56 of a driving source is freely rotatably held by the base 17 and a bearing of a holder 51, and the rotary tape guide 11 of the supply side is force-fitted into the rotary shaft 56. A main shaft of the flange 18 is erected on the base and the height is adjusted by a cap in the part and a pressed spring. The same arrangement is provided also for a rotary tape guide on the take-up side. When the tape guide 11 and the tape 7 are moved relatively at different speeds, a force D working in the breadthwise direction of tape is smaller than a static friction force C. When the tape guide 11 is rotated in the direction of the arrow at a high speed, an air layer is formed between the tape 7 and the guide 11, and the tape load is not increased. Thus, a contact load between the magnetic tape 7 and tape guide is eliminated and the unnecessary increase of tension is prevented, thereby the tape is made stably to run.
