PURPOSE: To facilitate the detection of auxiliary data at the time of reproducing and to improve reliability of the device by making each block of a video signal and an audio signal error correction coding, adding parity and recording them.
CONSTITUTION: Input video signal and audio signal are respectively A/D converted and processed (102, 104), further, sent to a first and a third block circuits 106, 108, each processed output is also sent to an auxiliary data circuit 105, information for decoding is generated, and sent to a second and a fourth block circuit 107, 109. And, each block is inputted to an error correction coding circuit 112 through a switch 111, after parity is added, it is supplied to a modulating circuit 113. A sync pattern and a block address for detecting each block are connected before a block in the circuit 113, modulation is performed as the sync block, and a modulated signal is recorded in a magnetic tape 15 through a recording head 114.
