PURPOSE: To omit the rotation waiting time of a disk and to perform a reproduction operation quickly and precisely by a method wherein a first reproduction operation is performed under a set retry condition in an information reproduction apparatus in which a plurality of different reproduction modes are available by a change in the selection method of a synchronizing signal.

CONSTITUTION: When a synchronizing signal is detected, the regular number of sector marks SM or address marks AM is not detected due to a defect on an information recording medium such as a magneto-optical disk or the like. In this case, in a retry reproduction operation by a normal mode in which a partial number of the marks SM out of them is detected and reproduced, a reproduction operation is performed under a retry condition from the beginning, the rotation of the disk must be waited, and a reproduction speed becomes low. In view of this, a mode in which a prescribed number of the marks SM is selected as a retry condition in advance and their order is set, and the reproduction operation under a set retry condition is executed from the beginning in a reproduction operation. Thereby, the rotation waiting time is not required, and the reproduction operation can be performed at a high speed and precisely.
