PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus and a method for optically measuring component concentration which enable improvement in the precision of concentration measurement.
CONSTITUTION: This apparatus consists of a cell 1, a photoradiation part 2, a light reception part 3, and an arithmetic part 4, and the cell 1 is made of a transparent member, shaped into a triangle in cross section, has different optical path lengths, and contains a sample 11, the photoirradiation part 2 consists of a variable wavelength laser generator 12 and a measurement system 15 made up of convex lenses 13, 14, enlarges a laser beam from the variable wavelength laser generator 12 more than an original cross section, and makes it enter the cell 1 as parallel beams, the light reception part 3 consists of many CCDs 16 arranged in parallel with the cell plane and can detect intensities in respective transmitted beams advancing over different optical path lengths at positions of equal distances from the cell 1, and the arithmetic part 4 calculates the concentration of a component in the sample 11 on the basis of an optimum optical path length for every wavelength and a value of transmitted light amount at this position in response to signals from each CCD 16, thereby outputting calculation results.
