PURPOSE: To obtain a new methoxyiminoacetonitrile compound useful as an intermediate for production of a methoxyiminoacetamide compound attracting attention as an agricultural germicide.
CONSTITUTION: A compound represented by formula I (X is H, a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy or a halogen: swing dash is E form, Z form or mixture of E form and Z form), e.g. α-methoxyimino-2-phenoxyphenylacetonitrile. The methoxyiminoacetonitrile compound of formula I can be obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (M is H or an alkali metal) with a compound of formula CH3L (L is a halogen or OSO2OCH3). The compound of formula I is useful as an intermediate for production of methoxyiminoacetanilide compounds expressed by formula III. The compound of formula III has an excellent germicidal activity on pathogen of rice blast, pathogen of rice sheath blight, pathogen of cucumber downy mildew, etc.
