PURPOSE: To provide the subject new compound useful as heavy metal sequestering agent, protein stabilizer, carcinostatic agent, etc., and the construction of drug delivery system.

CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I [R is (protected) OH; n is 4-6], e.g. 1,3-diaminopropan-2-yl 45-(4,6-diamino-4,6-dideoxy-α-D-glucopyranosyl)-α- maltopentaoside. The compound of formula I can be produced from the intermediate of formula II [R1 and R2 are (substituted) alkyl or aryl].
