PURPOSE: To set a shiftpoint in accordance with driver's preference by retrieving data by referring to a custom shiftpoint map variable in accordance with preference and processing the retrieved data and parameter signals to output a transmission control signal.
CONSTITUTION: In an automatic transmission in which a gear ratio of a transmission 14 connected with an engine 12 is controlled by a controller 24 in accordance with vehicle parameters, output signals of a vehicle speed sensor 32, a selector sensor 43 of a gear selector 40, and position switches 50, 51 of a mode selector 48 are input in the controller 24. Data is retrieved by vehicle speed signals by referring to a custom shiftpoint map which stores data relating the gear ratio of the transmission 14 to parameter signals and is variable by the first switch 50. This retrieved data and the parameter signals are processed to compute a transmission control signal and drive and control a transmission actuator 54.
