Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produced a polyester-based polyfunctional macromonomer which is composed of a specific structural unit and useful in giving biodegradable polymer materials, a drug release-controlling materials or the like because of its excellent mechanical properties and tensile elongation.

CONSTITUTION: The macromonomer is represented by the formula I [R1 is H, 1 to 16C alkyl; X is H, halogen, cyano, 1 to 6C alkyl, phenyl; A is a polyester chain comprising the recurring units of formula II (R2 is H, methyl, ethyl; q if 0 to 6); m is 0, 1; p is 0 to 6] and has an average degree of polymerization of 1 to 500. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by reaction of a triol or tetraol of formula III with a cyclic ester of formula IV followed by reaction of the product with an acid chloride of formula V. The polymerization of the macromonomer gives a polyester gel.
