PURPOSE: To obtain new compounds useful as non-peptidic angiotensin II antagonists which are effective for use in contact of hypertension.
CONSTITUTION: Compounds of formula I [R1 and R2 are each a hydride, alkyl, alkenyl, a group of formula II (T1 is a hydride, alkyl or the like) or the like; R3 is an alkyl, alkenyl or the like; n is 1-10; X is a single bond, -O-, -S- or the like; R5-R13 are each a hydride, 1-10C alkyl, 2-10C alkenyl or the like] and their pharmaceutically acceptable esters, amides and salts, such as 41-{12- butyl-6(1H)cycloheptimidazolon-1-yl)methyl}-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2-carboxylic acid, are obtained, for example, by reacting 4,5-dicarboxyaldehydeimidazole with a substd. ketone in the presence of a base such as trialkylamine in a solvent such as alcohol or dimethylformamide at a temp. of 0-80°C for 2-24 hours by a reaction of condensed ring closure.
