PURPOSE: To realize a small size and thinner structure, obtain intensified external magnetic field at the optical spot point and reduce unnecessary torque working on a magnet providing an external magnetic field in a magneto-optical disk apparatus provided with an external magnetic field application device.
CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical permanent magnet 5 which is magnetized in the diameter direction and rotatably driven is mounted within a carriage case 10 so that a line of magnetic force returns to the pole S from the pole N of the permanent magnet through a magnetic path of a magnetic material owing to a loading plate 2 of the magnetic material arranged on the upper surface through a recording medium 1 and a magnetic material 12 provided on the side wall of the carriage case 10. The loading plate 2 is provided with a cutout hole 11. Thereby, an apparatus can be formed thinner by loading an external magnetic field applying device within the carriage case. Moreover, intensity of external magnetic field can be acquired at the optical spot point and reliability of a magneto-optical disk apparatus can be improved by reducing unnecessary torque working on a magnet for applying external magnetic field.
