Title:
SLAG LAYER THICKNESS MEASURING METHOD BY USING SOLITON WAVE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0518733
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To measure the slag layer thickness by generating soliton wave in the slag layer floating on a melted metal having a free surface and detecting the transmission speed and wave height of the soliton wave. CONSTITUTION:A shaking rod 5 is struck into a slag layer 2 floating on a molten metal such as a melted steel 1 in a ladle 6 and pulled out to generate soliton wave 3. The transmission of the soliton wave 3 between prescribed two points is measured by a level meter 4, etc., and together with the transmission speed C of the soliton wave 3, wave height eta0 is detected. Based on Scott- Lassell's equaltion; C ={g (h+y eta0}<1/2> wherein the (h) and eta0 are set forth as premises and (g) stands for gravity, the thickness (h) of the slag layer 2 is obtained. By this method, measurement precision is improved and unmanned measurement of the slag's thickness becomes possible.
