PURPOSE: To obtain an Fe-Ni alloy sheet for shadow mask excellent in blackening treatability by forming a strip of Fe-Ni alloy with specific composition to a thickness equal to that of a flat mask and also finishing this strip to specific surface roughness.
CONSTITUTION: A strip of an alloy having a composition consisting of, by weight, 34-38% Ni and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities or a composition consisting of 30-33% Ni and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is formed to a sheet thickness practically equal to that of a flat mask for shadow mask. Further, in its surface roughness, the center line average roughness Ra and the average space Sm of cross section curve ruggedness are regulated to 0.3-0.8μm and 70-160μm, respectively, and also the skewness Rsk of roughness curve and its center line valley depth Rv are regulated to +0.5 to +1.2 and 1.0 to 2.5μm, respectively. It is preferable that kurtosis Rkr, which is an index of a height-direction skewness of the roughness curve in the above surface roughness, and the glossiness of the surface (JISZ8741, 20° specular gloss) are 3.0-7.0 and 60-160, respectively. By this method, the sheet for shadow, mask calable of forming a blackened film of prescribed properties in a short period an be obtained.
