Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy in deterioration judgment in the exhaust cleaning apparatus of an engine wherein exhaust sensors for detecting the concentration of oxygen in exhaust gas are provided before and after an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst provided in an exhaust system and the deterioration of the catalyst is judged based on the detected values of both sensors. CONSTITUTION:First and second exhaust sensors 12 and 13 for detecting the concentration of residual oxygen in the exhaust gas are provided at the upstream and the downstream of a catalyst converter 11 which is provided in an exhaust path 6 of an engine 1. An ECU 14 is made to judge and process the deterioration of the catalyst based on the detected values of the first and second exhaust sensors 12 and 13. At this time, the degree of the influence of hydrogen molecules on the oxygen detecting part of the first exhaust sensor 12 which is located at the upstream side of the catalyst converter 11 is more suppressed than that on the second exhaust sensor 13.
