PURPOSE: To display s0pecified character broadcasting by up-to-date information by extracting character broadcasting signals from plural channels and respectively recording the extracted signals.

CONSTITUTION: A setting part 1 specifies plural channels for character casting channels. The specification signal is stored in a storage part 2 through a control part 10. A channel selection control part 4 switches a tuner part 3 to the 1st channel based upon the data stored in the storage part 2 and a received/ demodulated composite video signal is inputted to a character extracting part 5 to extract a character broadcasting signal, which is recorded in a memory part 6 in each channel. On the other hand, a VD detection part 7 detects the end of a vertical blanking interval from the composite video signal. Then the succeeding channel is judged by the data read out from the storage part 2 through the control part 10 based upon the detection, the tuner part 3 is switched through the control part 10, a character broadcasting signal in the channel concerned is extracted and recorded in the memory part 6. The record of the memory part 6 is read out by a prescribed specification and decoded to a character signal by a decoding part 8 and the character signal is displayed on a display part 9.
