Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing 1,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl trifluoromethyl ether useful as a refrigerant or a propellant without any fear for destroying the ozonosphere in a high yield with a high selectivity by using a relatively readily available raw material.
CONSTITUTION: The characteristics of this method for producing 1,2,2,2- tetrafluoroethyl trifluoromethyl ether (CF3-CHF-O-CF3) comprises reducing iodine in 1-iodo-1,2,2,2,-tetrafluoroethyl trifluoromethyl ether (CF3-CIF-O-CF3) into hydrogen with a reducing agent. A metallic hydride or a metal hydrogen complex compound is preferably used as a reducing agent.
