Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve a molded article in weld line strength and appearance by a method wherein a thermotropic liquid crystal polymer is injection molded by using a mold formed by successively connecting a plurality of cavities through runners so that the outlet runners of the respective cavities are disposed a specific distance or more apart from the weld line position of the molded article.

CONSTITUTION: In this mold, a melt resin passes from a sprue into a cavity 1 through an inlet runner 1 to be branched. A part of the melt resin flows out of an outlet runner 1 into a cavity 2. After that, the melt resin is charged into cavities 3, 4... in a similar manner. The outlet runners 1, 2, 3... of the cavities 1, 2, 3... are disposed apart from the position of a weld line of a molded article by a distance not less than (y) mm found by the following expression: y=(2.69)x.0.26 where X represents a wall thickness (mm) of a minimum-wall thickness part in the vicinity of the weld line. It is preferable that an angle between a resin flow direction from the runner into the cavity and a resin flow direction out of the cavity is increased in the order of the cavities 1, 2, 3....
