PURPOSE: To prevent the formation of deformed magnetic domains and imperfectly erased magnetic domains so as to enable recording and erasing at a high speed and to obtain high C/N by executing recording while changing the output of laser pulses with which a recording medium is irradiated with time at the time of magnetic formation.
CONSTITUTION: The inclination of the front side of the light progressing direction in the temp. distribution of the recording film by irradiation with the laser pulses at the time of forming the magnetic domains is designated as af and the inclination on the rear side thereof is designated as ab. The inclination of the temp. distribution formed when the magneto-optical recording medium is not rotated in the gentlest temp. distribution of the recording film by the irradiation with the laser pulses at the time of forming the magnetic domains is designated as (a) and the inclination of the temp. distribution formed when the magneto-optical recording medium is not rotated in the gentlest temp. distribution of the recording film by the irradiation with the laser pulses at the time of erasing the magnetic domains is designated as a'. The recording is executed by changing the output of the laser pulses with which the medium is irradiated at the time of the magnetic formation with time so as to satisfying the conditions af<a' ab≥a.
