PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain a compound that is useful as a chemical intermediate for a cardiovascular agent by treating a substrate comprising a specific 1-benzazepine-2,3-dione with reductase or a microorganism feeding the same.
CONSTITUTION: The substrate comprising 1-benzazepine-2,3-dione represented by formula I [X1 is CH2, S; R2 is a group of formula II (R7 and R8 are each is H, an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an aryalkyl, R7 and R8 may be incorporated together with N atoms bonding to these alkyls to form azetidinyl or pyrrolidinyl group and the like; n is 0, 1-3) or the like; R3-R5 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, an aryloxy, cyano, OH, nitro or the like] is treated with reductase or a microorganism supplying reductase (for example, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC25619 or the like) thereby obtaining the objective benzazepine and benzothiazepine derivative that is useful as an intermediate of a cardiovascular agent represented by formula III.
