PURPOSE: To set an object distance between cars by reflecting the 'taste' or the 'habit' of a driver, and to carry out a car-to-car type feedback control adequately.
CONSTITUTION: A distance sensor to detect the distance between the own car and a preceding car, and a car-to-car type F/B controller 520 to control the car speed to maintain the distance between cars at an object distance between cars, are provided. And in a nonautomatic cruising time when the controller 520 is not operating, the distance between cars dedected by the distance sensor is accumulated in a learning member 910. On the other hand, in the automatic cruising time when the controller 520 is operating, an object distance between cars is set depending on the distance data between cars accumulated in the learning member 910. The distance data between cars when the driver operates an operation switch to operate the car-to-car type F/B controller 520 in the condition other than the nonautomatic cruising, or the distance data between cars when the driver regulates the distance between the own car and a preceding car in the condition the automatic cruising means is operating, may be accumulated.
