PURPOSE: To obtain a coating agent for coating aluminum comprising specific vinyl ester copolymers, and which is useful for heat-sealing coating for aluminum and has a good adhesive to aluminum and a strong sealing seam whether it is dry or wet.
CONSTITUTION: This coating agent comprises an organic solvent (preferably acetone or the like) and vinyl ester copolymers comprising (A) 20-90 pts.wt. of a vinyl ester (vinyl acetate is preferable) of a saturated 1-5C aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, (B) 0 to 70 pts.wt. of a vinyl ester of a saturated 9-10C aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having a quaternary C atom in the o-position to the carboxyl group (a versatic acid-vinyl ester mixture is preferable), (C) 0.05-10 pts.wt. of an ethylenically unsaturated 3-10C mono- or dicarboxylic acid (anhydride) (maleic acid anhydride or the like is preferable), and (D) 0 to 50 pts.wt. of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, the homopolymer of which has a glass transition temperature above 30°C diisopropyl fumarate or the like is preferable).
